It’s not often you purchase a dress for an occasion over 6 to 12 months in advance so it’s daunting to do so for what is, arguably, the most significant and most photographed day of your life.
For 2025 and even 2026 brides-to-be currently making moves to find their dream wedding dress, below, The Wedding Edition has identified the trends worth watching come the New Year.
Drop-waist
The drop-waist silhouette has been growing in popularity but 2025 is set to be its year. Annelise, founder of The Fall Bride, credits the style with offering “a timeless silhouette that elongates the figure with a hint of vintage glamour and modern sophistication”. Perfect for the bride who loves a bold, yet classic style, the drop-waist silhouette is favoured by designers such as Los Angeles-based Cinq and London’s own Cassandra Graham.
Romantic veils
In 2025, The Wedding Edition predicts that veils will become something of a canvas for brides to tell their story and serve as a keepsake long after their big day. Veil specialist Rebecca Anne Designs has also seen an uptick in brides-to-be opting for large-scale floral embroidery and an increase in orders of The Script Veil, her signature embroidered veil which can feature anything from a handwritten note to a vow or a discreet nod to a loved one.
As for the style of veil rising to prominence in 2025? Expect to see more and more brides making a romantic statement by opting for a traditional Spanish-style Mantilla veil or theatrical Juliet Cap, a la Kate Moss circa 2011.
A lot of lace
According to TWE favourite, Kate Halfpenny, brides-to-be visiting her London boutique are favouring her Spencer Corset for its perfect pairing of intricate lace detailing and appliqués with a strong silhouette. Team the Spencer Corset with Halfpenny’s drop-waist Jones Skirt and nail two 2025 trends in one dress.
Like Halfpenny, Rosie Etienne tells TWE she has seen a similar trend of brides-to-be opting for her Sophia design which combines a structured bodice with intricate lace embroidery and delicate pearl embellishments.
Corsetry
If it’s not a basque waist that 2025 brides-to-be are after, it’s structured corsetry. Jess Kaye, co-founder of The Own Studio, revealed that their customers are obsessed with looking “snatched” and favouring structured fabrics such as brocade, mikado and duchesse satin gowns for their nuptials.
Kaye has also seen an increase in brides-to-be transforming their look from day to night with many pairing a The Own Studio corset with an organza or chiffon skirt for an ethereal vibe for day and then changing into a sheer, lace skirt for evening.
The Wedding Wardrobe
With celebrations increasingly stretching across multiple days, more and more brides-to-be are shopping for an entire wedding wardrobe rather than just one look. Kate Halfpenny has seen her edit of mini-dress designs continue to grow in popularity as “either a second – or third! – look” and her double-breasted Sophie midi-dress embraced as the elegant bride’s go-to civil ceremony outfit.
As a result of the ever-expanding wedding wardrobe, The Own Studio has noted an uptick in brides-to-be “leaning into fabrics that can be dyed after the wedding or styles that can be repurposed to become enduring pieces in their wardrobe.”
Gemma Sort Chilvers, founder of Penelope Chilvers and a The Own Studio bride, dyed her gown pink following her nuptials this summer. The social media response was epic and Kaye says the boutique has been inundated with enquiries ever since.
It’s all in the accessories
If my own choice of wedding dress hadn’t been written in the stars since 2022, this bride-to-be would have found a way to incorporate a silk scarf. A modern alternative to a veil, The Fall Bride’s Annelise is a huge fan of the trend and loves them worn delicately in reverse around the neck.
Just see Ilenia Mendola’s luxe Ibiza wedding for which she paired a silk Saint Laurent slip dress with a custom-made silk scarf – and oversized sunglasses, for good measure.
