Vitalij Melynik, 27 and Maria Bilyk 23 met through Maria’s cousin and sister. Vitalij proposed to Maria on the 30th of December with a surprise visit to Ukraine. She hadn’t seen him in a while and it was really unexpected! The couple had originally planned to wed in Ukraine in the summer but had fled due to the war. The wedding was pulled together in just two weeks by the wedding venue and wedding suppliers. On the day, Maria’s mother walked her down the aisle which had photographs on the seats of all their loved ones in Ukraine who couldn’t attend the wedding.
The best part of our day was….
The best part of our day was just holding each other’s hands and repeating the vows. Also the good wishes that people have sent us were really heartbreaking!
We pulled the day together in two weeks with the help of amazing Hamish Shephard and the Bridebook.com and Hedsor House teams! They have really pulled their weight to make all of this happen and we are eternally grateful to them.
I knew I found ‘The One’ when….
I spent the whole day shopping and when I finally saw it I just knew it was something I was looking for. I knew I found ‘The One’ when I put it on and fitted me perfectly.
The most enjoyable moments of planning were…
The most enjoyable moments of planning a quick wedding were the excitement around it. It was really great getting to know all of the people who were involved and seeing them walking the extra mile to just make this wedding look exactly the way we wanted.
The hardest part of planning was…
The hardest part of planning with the two week time frame was the absence of time itself. It was quite stressful to work full time and at the same time finding the time to arrange something or even answer the email!
Wedding menu highlights..
Our wedding menu highlights were deroony (like a Ukrainian type of a hash brown), varenyky (dumplings), goloobtsy (cabbage roll) and lots of other small snacks made by fantastic caterers Goose and Berry. Also there was some Ukrainian vodka, wine and other drinks.
Our first dance song was..
We haven’t had our first dance yet. But if we had one it would be something slow and romantic!
If I was able to do it all over again, the one thing I would change is…
If I was able to do it all over again, the one thing I would change is the amount of guests. We would like to have more people to share our happy day with!
