From matching on a dating app during lockdown to marrying at The Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair, Natasha and Tom share the details behind their chic Mayfair wedding.
The Story So Far
Our love story began in the midst of the pandemic. We matched on a dating app during lockdown and, after four themed Zoom dates and countless phone calls, we finally met in person. A couple of summers later, Tommy proposed at sunrise on a hike to an ancient castle on our favourite Greek island. He surprised me with a five-stone diamond ring on a platinum band—originally his mother’s, resized for me.
The Venue
We chose The Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair for its beautiful architecture and iconic ties to the area. It also happens to be the chapel from Love Actually, which made it even more special. The reception was held at the Savile Club, a five-minute walk from the church. We fell in love with the ballroom’s frescoed ceiling and mirrored dining rooms—perfect for our candlelit autumnal dinner party. The Michelin-starred chef’s bespoke menu sealed the deal. The day before, we hosted a champagne afternoon tea at The Beaumont Hotel’s Gatsby Room—a highlight of the weekend.
The Fashion
My dress was a Vera Wang design. I was drawn to the corded lace online and bought it the first time I tried it on. The detachable lace sleeves were perfect for the October chill, and removing them transformed the look for the evening. My veil was by Nensi Dojaka, and my heels by Loeffler Randall. Tommy opted for a Thom Sweeney midnight tuxedo, with Oxfords from Church’s. His fittings were one of his favourite parts of the pre-wedding prep. I wore Simone Rocha pearl drop earrings, and my “something blue” was a sapphire bracelet that belonged to my late grandmother, lent to me by my mother just before the ceremony.
The Bridal Party
I wanted my bridesmaids to feel comfortable, so they each chose their own dresses in line with our black-tie dress code, which ended up looking perfect together. Our flower girl and page boy wore pre-loved Amelia Brennan outfits. I handmade a sash and cummerbund from sage-green silk dupion to finish the look. I gifted my bridesmaids Indian block-print robes, necklaces, and beauty products for some pampering while we got ready.
Transportation
Despite booking a Rolls Royce, it was over an hour late! In true London style, my parents and I hailed a black cab, and the female cabby was so excited to drive her first bride that she waived the fare, turning a stressful moment into one of the happiest of the day.
The Tablescape
I was inspired by Dutch master paintings, incorporating autumnal fruits and flowers. Our florist, Sarah, understood my vision and brought it to life beautifully. From delicate bouquets to surprise urns at the chapel entrance, the atmosphere was magical. The Savile Club ballroom exceeded all expectations with elegant flowers, foliage, fruit, and candles. The staircase adorned with soft pinks and autumn hues was a fairytale setting for our guests. I designed all the stationery myself, creating whimsical watercolour illustrations for the invitations, order of service, menus, and place cards. This labour of love inspired me to launch Studio Sumerfield, offering bespoke wedding stationery.
Food & Drinks
We collaborated with the Savile Club’s Michelin-starred chef to design a bespoke menu that featured highlights like truffle and burrata tortellini with morel mushrooms, and an Earl Grey tea salmon fillet. Our cake, by Violet Bakery, was a four-tier Amalfi lemon and elderflower delight, decorated with sugared fruits and fresh flowers in keeping with our Dutch Masters theme.
Entertainment
Music played a huge part in our day, from the bridesmaids singing Elton John’s Your Song to a live rendition of All You Need Is Love as we entered the ballroom. Our first dance, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, was performed by our singer-songwriter friend, Ado Matheson, followed by a night of disco and DJ sets from friends.
Beauty & Wellness Regime
Make-up artist Saskia Wright created a clean, fresh look that lasted all day. For hair, Jordan Garrett from Hershesons crafted a sleek ballet bun, perfect for my veil.
Favourite Wedding Gifts
We opted for a honeymoon gift list through The Wedding Shop for our trip to Vietnam. Friends gifted us experiences like a sunset beach meal and a surfing lesson, which made our two-week adventure even more special.
Advice
- Work with suppliers you connect with—those relationships made the lead-up and the day itself more enjoyable.
- Get as much done ahead of time as possible to avoid last-minute stress.
- Don’t stress if timings don’t go perfectly—your guests won’t notice and will be enjoying themselves regardless.
