From their serendipitous meeting in Copenhagen to their intimate proposal and dream Ibiza wedding at Agroturismo Atzaró, the couple’s story is one of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Discover all the details of Ilenia Mendola and Matteo Aglioni ‘s dream Ibiza wedding here.
The Story So Far..
Matteo and I met in Copenhagen in 2018 while we were both working on a crucial construction project that turned out to be a defining moment for our careers — and for us personally. What began as business meetings and dinners soon turned into secret dates. It was fun keeping things under wraps! Once the project wrapped up, I returned to Milan, and a few months later, Matteo joined me, where we’ve been living ever since. Over time, we realised that our two different worlds fit perfectly together. Last December, Matteo proposed at home, just the two of us. It was such a private, heartfelt moment, and he gave me the most classic and timeless Tiffany setting ring—absolutely perfect.
The Venue
We chose to get married at Agroturismo Atzaró in Ibiza. The island holds a special place in our hearts; it’s where we’ve spent many holidays with close friends, and it’s a place that makes us incredibly happy. Ibiza is where we realised we wanted our love to last forever.
Atzaró instantly captured our hearts with its 300-year-old finca charm and a seamless blend of Ibizan tradition and understated luxury. It felt like the real spirit of the island was woven into every corner. I stayed in one of Atzaró’s most beautiful suites on the day of the wedding, while Matteo stayed at Mongibello hotel, where we hosted our guests before and after the celebration. We chose Mongibello for its “dolce vita” style, and it was the perfect fit for the relaxed vibe we wanted.
The day before the Ibiza wedding, we welcomed our guests with drinks at Experimental Beach, one of our favourite sunset spots on the island. The day after, we enjoyed a laid-back brunch by the pool at Mongibello, where everyone was staying.
The Fashion
For my wedding dress, I went with a silk slip dress by Saint Laurent. I’ve always loved the brand for its timeless style and elegance, and when I tried on the dress, I knew it was “the one.” I paired it with a custom-made long silk scarf that I designed myself, as an alternative to the traditional veil. Later in the evening, I changed into a fun, feathered mini dress by Magda Butrym, which I wore with silver Jimmy Choo sandals.
Matteo wore a bespoke blue suit made by Nicola Santoro, which was a perfect reflection of his classic yet modern style. For the after-party, he switched things up with a printed Etro shirt that fit right into the Ibizan spirit.
The Jewellery
I kept my jewellery simple but meaningful. I wore vintage YSL gold earrings and a gold bracelet that belonged to Matteo’s mother, which added a sentimental touch to the day.
The Bridal Party
In keeping with Italian tradition, I didn’t have bridesmaids, but I did have two witnesses who were free to choose their own dresses. I simply asked them to wear something bright and colourful. Marika chose Alberta Ferretti, while Valentina opted for Giambattista Valli.
The Tablescape
We went for an imperial table seating 60 guests, decorated with my favourite flowers—white orchids and anthuriums—set along a green runner and candles in varying heights. For a magical touch, we hung glass baubles with candles from the pergola. Our personal touch was the custom-made underplates by Italian artist Emanuela Crotti, which also served as gifts for our guests.
Food & Drinks
Our menu was a blend of Mediterranean flavours, perfect for the island setting. Canapés included oysters with ponzu, bluefin tuna sashimi, and grilled octopus. The sit-down dinner featured roasted lobster with truffle dauphinoise and a green salad. For drinks, we served sangria, Champagne SOPHIE ECLAT Reserve Brut Premier Cru, and wines including LOLO Albariño and Jean Leon Merlot. The cake, crafted by Kiss the Cake, was the perfect finale.
Entertainment
Music was such an important part of the day for us. We had live performances from Lorenzo Zambianchi, a musician we’ve known for years from Milan, during the ceremony and dinner. For our first dance, we chose “Always” by Bon Jovi—something we both love. The after-party at Atzaró’s private club was unforgettable, with DJ Franco Moiraghi keeping the energy high until late into the night.
Beauty Regime & Wellness
I was so lucky to have my trusted hair stylists, Massimiliano Lo Vecchio and Francesco Merra, fly in from Milan. They made sure my hair was perfect for the big day. Jo Mackay worked her magic on my makeup, ensuring a flawless and natural look.
The Honeymoon
We’re planning to honeymoon in Japan this January. It’s a country we’ve both wanted to explore, and we’re looking forward to immersing ourselves in its culture and history.
Favourite Wedding Gifts
We didn’t have an official wedding list, but some gifts stood out for their thoughtfulness. A set of ceramics by our favourite local artist was particularly special and will forever remind us of this beautiful time.
Advice
- Entertainment is key. We wanted a moving ceremony followed by a party that reflected who we are. Choosing performers we already knew helped ensure everything felt right.
- Even with a wedding planner, be involved in the details. I personally chose the flowers for the table décor, which made the day feel uniquely ours.
- Opt for a photographer who captures natural moments. We didn’t want to spend too much time posing for photos, and the result was a beautiful, authentic reflection of our day.
