When planning my daughter Aurora’s 5th birthday, I wanted to create a magical princess and fairy-themed celebration that would leave everyone enchanted. Drawing on my experience as co-founder of The Mini Edition, I combined creative touches, dreamy décor, and interactive activities to transport the children into a whimsical fairytale world. With help from some of my favourite brands, the day was filled with sparkle and joy. Here’s how you can plan the Fairy-Princess Party, with all my insider tips and go-to suppliers.
Fairytale Tablescape: Set the Scene for Magic
Creating a magical tablescape was a highlight of Aurora’s party. The right table setup can make a huge difference, transporting the children into a world of enchantment and wonder.
- Table Linens & Runners: For the party, I opted for soft pink table linens paired with a glittery sequin runner to add that magical sparkle. Meri Meri provided beautiful, whimsical accents like pastel plates and sparkling accessories that really brought the table to life.
- Plates & Cutlery: The charming princess-themed plates from Meri Meri, paired with their sparkly cutlery, were essential to setting the enchanting tone. The kids absolutely loved these.
- Centerpieces: For a soft, magical glow, I included Meri Meri’s twinkling fairy lights alongside pastel flowers. The Meri Meri paper fans, garlands, and glittered star wands scattered across the table added a playful yet elegant touch.
Bouncy Castles: Endless Fun and Adventure
A bouncy castle is a guaranteed source of fun at any party, and it was no different at Aurora’s celebration. Here’s how to make the most of this playful feature:
- Choosing the Right Castle: I chose a pink bouncy castle from Smiley Faces Event Hire, which perfectly complemented the princess theme while providing endless entertainment.
- Safety First: Always ensure there’s adult supervision and limit the number of children playing at one time for safety.
The bouncy castle was a hit, offering non-stop laughter and play throughout the day, while keeping the party’s whimsical theme alive.
Games, Dressing Up & Creative Painting
Aurora’s party was filled with interactive games and creative activities, allowing the children to unleash their imagination and fully engage in the fairy tale world we created:
- Princess-Themed Games:
- We played Musical Thrones (renamed as Magical Stools) where the kids danced to enchanting music, adding a fairytale twist to the classic musical chairs.
- A Treasure Hunt around the garden was another highlight, with hidden crowns and fairy jewels waiting to be discovered.
Outfits With Fairy Wings and Flower Crowns
At a princess and fairy party, every child should feel transformed into a character from their own magical story. Dressing up was one of the most exciting parts of Aurora’s birthday:
- Princess Dresses: Aurora’s beautiful Belle-inspired gown from Children Salon set the tone for the day, making her feel like she had stepped straight out of a fairytale.
- Fairy Wings: Upon arrival, each guest was given delicate fairy wings from Meri Meri, transforming them instantly into magical fairies.
- Accessories: Sparkly tiaras, wands, and glittery shoes were Age of Innocence, completing the fairy-tale look for all the little guests.
5. Magical Touches
To make the party truly unforgettable, adding magical touches throughout the day was key. These little details helped create a fully immersive fairytale experience for everyone:
- Twinkling Lights & Fairy Decor: I used fairy lights from to create an ethereal, glowing atmosphere as the sun went down. We also included Meri Meri,, lanterns, toadstools, and forest-themed decor to enhance the woodland fairy vibe.
- A Special Spot for Photos: Aurora had her own “magical throne,” a decorated chair surrounded by flowers and soft fabrics, which became the perfect spot for capturing precious memories.
- Party Favours: Each guest left with a goodie bag filled with princess crowns, bubbles, little sweeties and sparkly lip balms all in very chic bags from Meri Meri, so they could take a piece of the magic home with them.
6. Fairy Feast: A Delicious Spread
Of course, no party is complete without delicious food to keep the little ones fuelled for a day of fun. For Aurora’s birthday, we chose something unique and memorable:
- Hog Roast: We had a fantastic hog roast catered by East Sussex Hog Roast, which was a hit with both the adults and children alike. The hearty meal fit perfectly into the outdoor setting, offering a rustic yet charming feast for all the guests.
- Pizzas for the Kids: For the little ones, we served up a range of kid-friendly pizzas—simple, delicious, and always a favourite!
- Homemade Cupcakes & Cake: I made the cupcakes and birthday cake myself, using magical Meri Meri toppers to add an extra whimsical touch. The children loved the fairy-themed treats, and it was a personal way to make the day even more special.
