Why Go?
Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay speaks to the foodie honeymooners who are angling for a laid back beachy trip, without the long haul flight. Any lingering wedding knots can be ironed out in the Six Senses Spa or couples can just take it easy by the pool, lapping up the Ibiza vibes.
Honeymoon Style
This is for foodie honeymooners looking to blend pure, sun-soaked island relaxation with a little lounge music, a dash of laid back glamour, and a sprinkling of local culture.
Set the Scene
Shoulders are lowered several inches the moment you set foot in Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay‘s whitewashed lobby. Perhaps it’s the earthy wicker chairs and bohemian rattan lampshades painting a seriously laid back picture, or the calming, lounge-style music. Mainly though, it’s that view beyond the boho-chic, beachy interiors: a photogenic beachfront (adult only) pool surrounded by unusually large sun loungers that could double as beds, then, beyond it, the twinkling Mediterranean. Waiters who effortlessly weave into the island-vibe visual offer up cocktails and herb-doused nibbles from the bar.
The Concierge, hemmed by the formidable Javier Garcia, helps guests navigate the cool, Ibiza terrain of superlative seafood restaurants along the marina, such as Roto where a DJ keeps things lively, and trendy beach clubs such as Casa Jondal and Experimental Beach.
Rooms
Our TWE contributor reviewed a Beach View Room with a balcony overlooking the languorous comings-and-goings of Ibiza Bay. Fresh, breezy rooms are furnished in earthy tones with the occasional blot of inky blue to mirror the sea, along with gold flourishes, blonde woods and all the mod cons the modern luxury traveller can hope for. A stylish refuge from the sun-and-sand routine, the spacious balconies offer a spot of privacy, as well as a lovely sunset spot, or a relaxing daytime perch, simply watching the boats bob in the bay beyond the pages of a book. Arduous days on the beach can be taken to the cavernous marble bathrooms, for a pre-supper pampering session with rosemary & white tea Natura Bissé amenities, exclusive to Nobu.
Food & Drink
Nobu needs no introduction and enjoys worldwide fame for good reason. As such, booking ahead is essential. Open the show with an alchemic-style cocktail before taking on the highly recommended Omakase menu – the perfect way to savour Chef Nobu’s Japanese gastronomic fusion dishes. Expect melt-in-the-mouth Toro tuna sushi, baby spinach salad glazed with dry miso, and of course, the legendary black miso cod – not forgetting the delectable chocolate fondant with matcha ice cream.
Couples can pull a chair up for a toes-in-the-sand lazy long lunch at, Chambao – Ibiza Bay’s laidback chiringuito beach restaurant. Scattered across the beach and choreographed around swaying palms, island style, the restaurant cleverly blends the island’s unbuttoned appeal with elevated simple fare. For a little foodie theatre, opt for the speciality of the house, the “Blind Paella” with monkfish, prawns, mussels and prawn carpaccio, which is skilfully deboned and served à la table. Flavoursome seafood is expertly paired by the team with crisp white wines, such as Albariño Dandelion (a bottle of which can effortlessly swing lunch into late afternoon).
A wide-ranging and delicious breakfast (duly honouring Nobu’s flawless foodie reputation) is served up daily from 8-11am – the 11am cut off point being music to the ears of most honeymooners after a lie-in.
The Story
Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay opened in 2017 to great fanfare (or at least the chilled, go-slow Ibiza type). Our TWE contributor reviewed during end of season, yet it was still buzzing and full of new and returning guests and their families.
Family Friendly
A key draw of Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is its ability to offer the best of both worlds: an adult only pool and relaxation area, as well as a kids’ pool and complimentary kids’ club for children aged 4 to 14. This smart move ensures families are well catered to (many of whom have returned annually since the hotel’s opening), while those travelling without children in tow can enjoy a honeymoon in an adult-only environment, free of the usual pool splashing. The list of kids’ club activities ranges from cookery classes and DJ workshops to bohemian crafts and kids’ yoga – all Ibiza-inspired programmes.
Spa
Ibiza Bay Spa by Six Senses Spa offers holistic treatments that are inspired by the well-documented healing and nourishing virtues of the island’s surrounding environment and its energy. Signature treatments include mindfulness journeys, beauty therapies, relaxation and yoga programmes.
Our reviewer opted for the “Just For You” massage, where a therapist worked skilfully to help release stress, tension and muscular knots, re-energising a weary body with almond oil using a variety of techniques on different pressure points. This particular treatment, along with couples massages are both highly recommended for newlyweds with unfettered relaxation high on their honeymoon agenda.
Location
Ibiza Bay is ideally positioned on the shores of Talamanca Bay, eight kilometres from the airport (20 minutes by taxi) and two kilometres North of Ibiza Town. It is also walking distance to the Marina, with all its super luxe yachts and the gateway to Formentera, with regular ferry crossings taking just 25 minutes, or private charters taking considerably less time.
Ibiza Town is just a 30-minute walk away, with its historic Cathedral offering stunning views across the Old Town, as well as its charming plaça, dotted with many shaded cafés serving refreshing drinks, and its warren of independent boutiques.
