Choosing your stationery is a really fun part of the planning process, and the design you choose can set the tone for the whole look and feel of your big day. From the important things like when to send your invitations, down to the finer details, we asked the expert, Ashleigh from Flourish and Plume for their advice.
Flourish & Plume is a London based stationery design studio. Our focus is on combining hand-lettered modern calligraphy & hand-drawn illustrations. We create unique pieces for wedding stationery & other special events. Our founder Ashleigh, works directly with individuals, event planners & established brands. Brands have included Hermes, Liberty London and Quintessentially to name a few. Ashleigh is available to work on site hand-lettering live at events.
What are the coolest trends you have seen for 2022?
We love to work closely with our couples to produce bespoke wedding stationery that will reflect their special day by incorporating the colour palettes, themes and florals being used.
A big trend this year was the use of fresh mid-green colour palettes. This featured throughout painted foliage designs and card stock, such as mid green envelopes that worked beautifully with white ink calligraphy guest addresses and place names on mid green place cards.
What are couples doing that are ‘unique’ or different?
Our couples love to push boundaries with materials. Whether we are producing stationery on handmade deckle edge paper, faux skin tambourines, or incorporating a textual element such as hessian ribbon.
How can couples make an impact with their stationery?
Couples can stand out through using bespoke hand painted floral illustrations. Whether these are looser painterly florals or detailed ditsys, we love creating different layouts from borders to asymmetrical designs.
Any endlessly romantic touches they can incorporate?
An endless romantic touch to incorporate is the use of hand-lettered calligraphy. Our founder Ashleigh can adapt her hand to almost any style and loves the challenge of developing a new style, this keeps invitation designs fresh and current.
Is the Celestial-inspired trend here to stay?
Quite possibly but it is not something that our couples have requested this year.
Can guests make an impact with dramatic Botanicals or dried flowers?
Yes we love dramatic botanicals and is usually always a key inspiration focus to our designs. This can beautifully set the tone for the day as a nod to the wedding flowers. Dried flowers are stunning and something we would love to work with.
Are Crests & Monograms still popular?
Crests and monograms are a great way for couples to create their own ‘logo’ which can in itself be used as branding throughout the wedding stationery, from the invitations through to all items on the day. Definitely a design aspect that clients request and is unique to them.
And finally, what’s next for Flourish & Plume this year?
Flourish and Plume have some fabulous bespoke wedding stationery suites lined up for 2023 bride and grooms. We are continuing to work with some wonderful high end brands hand-lettering for their events. Watch this space!
