Spa style:
Prettily ensconced in 123 acres of scenic Surrey countryside, it’s hard to believe that Pennyhill Park is a mere 45 minutes from central London. A long winding path reveals the handsome ivy-clad 19th-century Country House which is surrounded by gorgeous wooded parkland.
At the heart of it is an impressive state-of-the-art spa that can deliver as much or as little as you need. It has eight indoor and outdoor pools – one with underwater music and fibre optic lighting – hot tubs, herbal steam rooms, laconiums and an ice cave which all provide a rejuvenating experience. Champagne served in and around the pools adds a touch of luxury. Plus there’s an extensive menu of pampering, detoxing and holistic treatments and spa breaks to choose from. For those wanting a more active break, there is three-hole golf course, tennis, and nature trail for whenever you’re ready for a ramble.
Set the scene:
Pennyhill Park expertly straddles luxury and comfort. The sense of indulgent downtime begins as soon as you step into the main reception which is itself a calm oasis of plush interiors with its trendy grey walls, beautiful paneling and decorative plumage. It’s a prelude to the rest of the imposing 19th-century Downtown Abbey like main house which is adorned with elegant chandeliers, magnificent wall-length tapestries and vintage furniture. Before you’ve even visited the spa, the main house feels like the perfect hideout for rebooting. It’s easy to see why Pennyhill Park deserves its swanky reputation
The rooms:
For the ultimate comfort meets luxe break, stay in one of the Junior suites which have all undergone a major refurb and expansion, offering a clever blend of contemporary and period touches – Historical features are retained through vintage furniture, heavily-patterned wallpapers and throws, and winged armchairs. The suites come with an impressive carved four-poster bed and striking wall art. Modern sand coloured exposed brick walls, and elegant chrome lamps provide a light, airy feel to the bedrooms contrasting beautifully with charming dark wood trimmed window frames. They also come with bathrobes, slippers, toiletries and tea-making facilities and The Goodwood Suite boasts some of the best bedroom views looking out over the med-luxe inspired outdoor swimming pools where guests while away entire days loafing and grazing and swimming gentle laps
Food and drink:
Breakfast consists of an extensive buffet of juices, including vitamin-packed hydration options, fresh fruit, charcuterie, smoked salmon, and hot dishes including gluten-free sausages and eggs cooked to order. For a smart evening dinner, Hillfield Restaurant offers an extensive menu. Stand out plates include the Isle of Wight heritage tomato salad and cornfed chicken breast with parsnip puree, potato and fritter with oyster mushroom in a red wine Jus.
The treatment:
Go for the bespoke Comfort Zone prescriptive facial which is tailored to your specific needs. Choose between The Remedy facial for sensitive and delicate skin, Hydramemory for dry and dehydrated skin or Active Pureness for oily and combination skin.
It’s a gentle treatment that uses a milk cleanser and enzymatic exfoliation rather than a harsh granular one. The ensuing facial massage is excellent and will revive dull complexions and is no doubt enhanced by the use of a unique massage brush that noticeably plumps up the skin. After the massage a hydrating mask is layered on to give a boost of moisture and the treatment finishes with eye cream, facial serum and moisturizer. Afterwards the results do look pretty exceptional. For brides who want to maximize the treatment, there is the option to go for a 7 day hydration course using The Hydraglow Ampoules from the Comfort Zone range.
