Why Verbier?
We went to Verbier, Switzerland because it’s where I’ve been going since I was a child. It’s also where me and my fiancé first met 14 years ago— and got engaged earlier this year. I always knew that’s where I wanted to have my hen do, and get all my favourite girls together for my final ‘last loop’.
Where We Stayed
We rented a chalet, as we all wanted to be together. The chalet had the ultimate Swiss vibe, and it’s a stone’s throw away from my favourite restaurant and aprés-ski spot, Le Rouge— where I knew we would be spending most of our time!
What We Did
I kept the options open for the girls. If they wanted to ski they could, but an Easter egg hunt was also organised to make sure we all made it up the mountain! The eggs were hidden along the walk where my fiancé had proposed to me. At the exact spot where the proposal took place, we had a diamond ring (the Everlasting Ring from Matilde Jewellery) waiting as a gift for the one who found it.
We obviously had to also do some shopping around the town, and the best shop to go to when you visit is Zer0: where you’ll find the perfect combination of mountain-inspired and metropolitan looks.
The spirit of Verbier is relaxed. It’s a very go-with-the-flow kind of place, which is probably one of the reasons I love it so much. You can go skiing if you want to, but equally, you can have an Aperol Spitz in the Place Centrale and watch the world go by. You can also get everywhere on foot, so very little planning is required… as long as you’re okay with steep uphill walks and have snow boots with traction handy!
Where We Ate
We went to Le Rouge for both lunch and for aprés ski. It’s the most fun place in Verbier, especially when the sun is shining. My hen weekend was also during was the end-of-season closing party, so it was so busy and music went on until late.
The following day, we went to the Farinet for live music. This was the best experience for everyone, and half the group left without their voice! We had booked the lounge next door for dinner but at that point we were all soaking wet and decided to bring takeaway pizzas back with us.
That night we played What Do You Meme but where you use your own images (selected by my maid of honour), which I highly recommend, as it always ends up being hilarious when you put your own twist on it.
We had lunch at the Fer a Cheval the following day, which is another one of my favourites—not much can beat their carbonara on a hangover!
What We Packed
We all had personalised sweaters from Conscious Citizen, face masks from Sarah Chapman, personalised illustrations from Saskia Studio, and goodie bags that included very necessary hydration tablets, lip balm, SPF and painkillers.
I had a personalised ribbon and veil from Gigi and Olive which was a really fun extra, and they also made personalised caps for everyone. I tried to incorporate as much white as possible into my outfits, but by the end of it we were all sharing whatever outfits we could put together!
I made a mood board to send to the girls before the trip. I’ve noticed more and more people doing this and It’s becoming increasingly popular with weddings too. It’s really helpful, and rather than everyone stressing about what to pack it just gives an overall vibe so you know you’re on the right track!
I find in Verbier less is more, it’s always best to bring layers in case the weather changes and not to wear anything you’re too precious about, because if you end up at aprés-ski, it might get ruined.
Best Moment Of The Hen Weekend
I have to mention one of the mornings where we had a champagne breakfast up the mountain at La Marlenaz, which is one of those places in the world that doesn’t feel real. It’s my favourite place ever, which is secretly open early but people don’t usually go there until midday. The best part of it all was having all my best girl friends together.
