The Story
Before their Australian Wedding, Michaela and Jake met in 2014 whilst at university in Brisbane, Australia. The duo were great friends until losing touch in 2017, when Jake moved to Melbourne, Australia for work and Michaela started travelling internationally for her music career. In 2019, the friends reconnected while Michaela was filming a commercial in Melbourne and have been inseparable as a romantic couple ever since. Jake proposed to Michaela by a waterfall in the Gold Coast Hinterland on 2-22-2022. Michaela received her dream ring, a modest VVS1 brilliant-round cut diamond, set within 6-prongs, and surrounded by a diamond pave on a 2mm 18K gold band.
Venue
‘The Great Hall’ is situated inside Brisbane Grammar School, a prestigious Australian all-boys school and Jake’s alma mater high school. Only ‘old boys’ are allowed to wed inside The Great Hall, making the venue semi-exclusive and sentimental to the groom. The entrance involves a decorative portico carved from Oamaru stone, containing gargoyles, and foliage motifs. Unfortunately, Michaela’s father passed away two weeks before their wedding date. Because of this, the couple cancelled their reception and continued only with the ceremony to celebrate their love with family and friends. With special executive-board permission, the couple were allowed to host a catered gathering on school grounds, outside the heritage listed ‘War Memorial Library’.
Fashion
A key theme for Michaela’s Australian wedding was using as many local (Australian) suppliers as possible, starting with her dress. She was lucky to collaborate with the global Australian wedding house, ‘Luv Bridal’, who stock an array of customisable Australian-made designer dresses. Michaela chose what appealed to her ‘Lover-era’, knowing exactly the dress shape (A-line) she wanted before her first appointment. Michaela’s aunty lent her a blue diamond (tanzanite) bracelet.
She wore Loeffler Randall ‘Dahlia Pleated Bow Heels with Ankle Strap’ in the colour Pearl.
Handmade in Australia, Jake designed and ordered a custom suit from InStitchu and chose classic black dress shoes from Australian brand, Julius. Marlow in the style ‘Jaunt’.
Jewellery
Michaela chose to wear a custom necklace her father previously gifted her, which was diamond and gold, so she chose simple ethically sourced and responsibly crafted De Beers round-cut diamond studs set in gold to match the necklace.
Bridal Party
The bridesmaids wore matching Australian designer ‘Camilla’ maxi dresses in the print ‘Crossing Paths’. The maxi dresses were three different style cuts, including the classic kaftan half sleeve, draw string top, and deep v neck, allowing each bridesmaid to have some individuality and compliment their own figures, while looking cohesive and vibrant.
Tablescape
The ceremony included the favours already ordered for the reception. Branded ‘Memchella’ gift bags sat waiting on pews for guests as a small thank you. Included in the gift bags was a printed ‘business directory’ of all guest’s small businesses, sweet treats, custom napkin rings, and a thank you card.
The flower arrangements, bouquets, buttons holes, and corsages were sponsored by Interflora. Michaela has collaborated with Interflora for many years and the team was an absolute dream to work with.
Food & Drink
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed Yellow Label Veuve Clicquot and the Bridal party Krug Grand Cuvee NV Champagne, along with a selection of canapés from Cuisine on Cue.
Entertainment
Michaela walked down the aisle to what was meant to be her father/daughter dance song, ‘Sparks Fly’ by Taylor Swift.
Michaela surprised Jake by organising the bridesmaids and groomsmen to enter to ‘Forever’ by Chris Brown in the style of The Office, S6:E4/5. She chose this to enter before her walk with her mum down the aisle, to lighten the guest’s mood knowing the sombre occasion her walk would bring, missing her recently passed father.
Beauty Regime & Wellness
In lead up to their Australian wedding, Michaela collaborated with skin clinic ‘The Formulated’, owned by celebrity skin doctor, Dr David Lim, to prep her skin before the wedding. The collaboration included four sessions of Clear + Brilliant resurfacing laser, Laser Genesis and various enzyme peels and hydrating masks.
Michaela’s hair colourist, Beau Foort, travelled to style her hair for the ceremony, creating his signature bouncy curls.
Michaela chose to do her own makeup for the big day. She has a lot of glam experience, creating personal looks for various music award shows, on-screen commercials, media events, and public appearances. Her kit include Charlotte Tilbury, Pat McGrath Labs, M.A.C Cosmetics, Rare Beauty, Fenty Beauty, Chanel, Synergie Minerals, Too-Faced, Laura Mercia, and Makeup by Mario.
Honeymoon
The couple decided to cancel their original honeymoon plans to Japan due to unexpected family circumstances, and after cancelling, Jake surprised Michaela with a few nights away on Hayman Island. It was a perfect destination being close enough to fly home within 1.5 hours if there was an emergency back home, as well as a tropical paradise forcing her to relax.
