When it comes to big day styling, Tattie is the woman in the know. You’ll likely have seen her chic flowers on the dinner tables of Instagram’s most discerning fashion influencers and at the most affluent weddings in the UK. She talks to The Wedding Edition about her favourite Seasonal Tablescaping for the perfect wedding day
Tattie and her team are used to transforming a space from ordinary to extraordinary using flowers, greenery, trees, structure and light; creating impact using scale as well as focussing on the small details which make a design unique.
Not only do they strive to push boundaries with their designs but they always remember to be kind to the land which so inspires them. For their our abundant, earthy yet romantic designs they are famous for, they hunt for the bounty of each season throughout the year and their ingredients come from local growers and foragers whenever possible.
My favourite setting for an Autumnal wedding is….
Autumn is my favourite time of year to do flowers. It is the time that candlelight comes into her own, so my designs will often start with this. The ingredients in Autumn become more rugged and textured and so it is important to soften them with gentle fabrics if you want to create a more feminine feel. But if the wildness of this hearty time of year appeals to you then run with raw natural ingredients that roar with heart and pair these rich ruby red and flaming orange ingredients with bare wood or slate. For the Wedding Edition launch Party we softened the raging bracken with a softly spoken patterned cloth and the palest blush anemones- the final feel was real and honest and true to the moment and season yet sophisticated and gentle.
My favourite setting for a winter wedding is….
For a winter wedding I love to decorate large spaces and bring them in to make it feel intimate and warm. I like to think about the atmosphere we want to create and because it isn’t a particularly flowery time thinking about other elements such as scent, texture and light are very important. One of my favourite ingredients to use in abundance for a winter wedding is mistletoe, for both it’s beauty but also it’s pagan symbolism.
Of course there are the obvious pine and orange scents associated with winter but I would always try to think of something different, one that stays in your mind- perhaps the luxury of real beeswax candles or drops of frankincense oil on a napkin.
My favourite setting for a spring wedding is…
Everyone adores spring and tulip mania sets in. For me spring calls for delicate flowers on a smaller scale, perhaps a beautiful elegant dining room as a setting for an intimate wedding. My favourite flower in the world is a snakes head fritillary and I can think of nothing more beautiful than these arranged on mass in simple glass vases on a long table dressed with heavy white linen. More often than not less is more, especially when working with such an exquisite ingredient.
My Favourite setting for a summer wedding is…
Summer is my least favourite time for flowers, perhaps it becomes very obvious and to me magic is found in unlikely places. I still love to decorate a large marquee with lashings of greenery and trees and spires of foxgloves. During the summer foliage is abundant and strong so there is a chance to create wonderlands in places you would least expect them and this is a challenge I love. The summer also means that no structure or walled room is required and if the weather allows you can watch the day turn to night, sitting at a table alfresco with friends and love and tumbles of flowers- what could be better.
