RIXO’s story began in 2015 in the London living room of best friends, then students Henrietta Rix & Orlagh McCloskey. Henrietta and Orlagh met at University of Arts London, where on their first day enrolling as students Henrietta complimented Orlagh on her vintage handbag – a nod to what was to follow. Their philosophy is to evoke a wanderlust and free spirit in all RIXO wearers, producing easy-to-wear, feminine shapes with the best quality materials.
RIXO is known to be inclusive and empowering with a fusion of original hand-painted prints and timeless silhouettes to flatter every woman, irrespective of age, season, size, nationality or time of day. As female founders, both are equally passionate about running the business and live, breath, eat sleep RIXO. With no outside funding or investment the girls have together, made every decision and are still 100% in control of the brand – which they believe is key for the longevity and freedom to ensure they can stand by what they feel is right for the brand, instead of being pressured to hit financial targets.
We love working in the fashion industry because….
We have such a passion for it – we wouldn’t have been able to start RIXO and get it to where it is now without loving working in the industry. Since we started the brand nearly 7 years ago the fashion industry has definitely changed a lot, there’s so many aspects that are moving in a better direction and that’s exciting to see. We really like being part of the change where fashion doesn’t have to be so exclusive.
RIXO is best known for…
Vintage inspired pieces that you can wear to a variety of occasions, be it a wedding, work or a date! We’re known for our signature hand-painted prints and flattering shapes and styles. RIXO is known for making you feel your best when you wear it, whoever and wherever you are.
Our biggest achievement to date is…
Launching RIXO and building the team we have around us now. It started with just us two, with no external investment. We’ve also seen our #humansofrixo community grow tremendously and we’re always excited to see who’s tagged us on Instagram and how they’re styling their pieces. We’re also really focused on inspiring a more diverse industry and are so proud to be offering more size inclusive collections as we work hard on ensuring the fit is perfect, and that everyone feels amazing in our pieces.
We’re inspired by the vintage look because…
From day one, all of our collections have been inspired by vintage – whether it’s vintage prints, movies, postcards, furniture, it runs true in everything we design, and this was the same when we started designing our bridal collection. We wanted to create classic pieces that weren’t trend driven, and could be passed down to daughters and granddaughters, or simply worn again! With bridal, the cut of the dress is so important; when you strip back the print bridal works perfectly to highlight silhouettes.

The current wedding dress & bridesmaid trends we’re loving are…
We’re not inspired by trends, but we love the fact that there are so many different types of weddings these days, not just the traditional big ceremonies. We had this in mind when creating the new bridal collection, and that’s why we’ve split it into different categories, so it’s even easier for brides to find their perfect dress.

Our favourite look from the bridal collection is…
We love the Kelsey trousers and Andie jacket, there’s something so chic about bridal tailoring and this is one of the looks we are so excited to see our #humansofrixo wearing it.

My favourite place in the world to skip the crowds is…
Henrietta: I love heading back up north to my family home, it’s the perfect place to go when you need a little break from London life. We spend most of our time outside, either on my mum’s vegetable patch or going on long walks – it’s so relaxing and a total contrast to city life.
Orlagh: For me it’s about going on a drive with my partner and exploring somewhere new. We enjoy spending our weekends visiting different parts of the UK and seeing what vintage treasures we can find at various different fairs and markets.
The best person to follow on Instagram for big-day inspo is…
Orlagh: I love following wedding photographers and seeing the amazing images they capture of other people’s weddings. Benjamin Wheeler is a great one to follow, it’s so special to be able to see such an insight to other people’s big days.

And finally, what’s next for RIXO?
We’re really going to focus on making our current categories as good as they can be! In the past few years we’ve expanded into more categories, including bridal, and now it’s about perfecting our offering in each of those categories and providing our RIXO customers with the best selection we can. www.rixo.co.uk
